“Hmm, excellent question, Lanre. There is a title that you may have heard of, that title is the ‘Keeper of the Lists’. This title once belonged to Arador Kajorelle, former High King of Terath, and has existed for quite a long time. To summarize, it was decided long ago that Dragonkind would no longer rule over the kingdoms of men directly and the Lists were made to record those in power who possessed Draconic heritage and the percentage of Dragon blood that ran in their veins. You cannot govern over men if you possess more Draconic blood than mortal blood. The Lists I discovered here in Ku’Vahl were inscribed on a large obelisk in an ancient language, discernible only to a scholarly guild member of mine named ‘Alocious Genty’ – I called him Pantaloons.”
Xukkuth will pause his monologue in order to don a particularly melancholy expression, looking off into no where in particular.
“My guild members and I passed the obelisk with no further investigation – I was interested in gold, treasures, and magical trinkets, not history. I could be a tad bit short-sighted when I was younger.”July 10, 2013 at 2:21 pm #47556spencerParticipant@thrull
Thrull fishes in his bags for a moment. He gets a perturbed look on his face. one can only asume he did not find what he was after.
“Well thats a bother. I plan on walking out of here but if things get bad we are going fast be ready or you will be left behind.”
Thrull walks out to investigate the area where the undead were gathering.July 10, 2013 at 6:52 pm #47669SteveParticipant@steve
As the morning sun rises in the sky, you see a number of what appears to be heat mirages forming around you. Your first thought is that today is going to be unbearable hot, and then you realize it is far too early to be seeing such things. Your well-honed senses and the experience of hundreds of deadly battles saves you from an ambush as a variety of different (and somewhat bizarre) monsters seem to fade into existence from the rifts.
At first, the creatures seem to be utterly immune to your efforts to harm them, but a few seconds after they fully materialize your weapons and spells strike true. The most powerful of the creatures is some kind of chimera beast. A twisted combination of a wolf, spell casting ogre and spider with sharp, blade like legs.
You are able to defeat the beast after a minute or two of combat, though none escape the fight without at least a few cuts. As you rest to catch your breath, the monsters fade away, as if they were never there to begin with and the ‘heat rifts’ cease. Looking around, you see a dark robed figure disappear behind a building.
You have an opportunity to follow, but it will mean sacrificing any chance to rest after the fight.July 10, 2013 at 7:29 pm #47670Xukkuth d’ BarraParticipant@xukkuth
Xukkuth’s sight will focus on the dark robed figure in the moment before he vanishes. Regardless of the party’s decision to rest or do otherwise, he will size up the shape, gait, and imprint of this stranger’s tracks among the rubble and dirt of Ku’Vahl, intent on being prepared to track him if called upon to do so.July 10, 2013 at 10:30 pm #47557spencerParticipant@thrull
“this looks like a trap to me but we have to options let him go so he can keep poking at us untill he gets lucky or we end this now. I’m going with end this now. Xukkuth lead the way.”July 11, 2013 at 12:05 am #47672herogoethKeymaster@herogoeth
Swinging his pack so that flies over his shoulder and tumbles to the ground, Lanre will dart forward after the robed figure; his left arm still stained red with a trickle of blood from a new injury.
Lanre dashes out of the camp as he rattles his sabre in the air, foolhardy and likely failing to make even the most basic calculations for his own safety.July 11, 2013 at 12:29 am #47673ZanParticipant@zan

Oni hangs back guarding the rear giving a few seconds lead to the person in front of him so add not to lemming off a cliff or into a trap. redistributing any crunchy sticks so he can hear if anyone is following them.July 11, 2013 at 2:38 am #47674SteveParticipant@steve
As you cross the distance to the building, Xuukuth’s keen eyes quickly glance to the ground searching for footprints. Those near him can see a brief look of confusion and hear a quite mutter of ‘no tracks…’ before he looks back up and rounds the corner with the main group.
No more than 50 feet away you see the dark figure, not clad in a dark robe or cloak, but in what appears to be shadows constantly writhing around it. The figure is kneeling before a tall humanoid figure that is also clothed in darkness. The kneeling creature holds its hands up as if offering something to the other creature, its only distinguishable feature is an ornate gold crown with numerous settings for gems that are empty atop its head.
As you advance, the crowned figure takes the object from the hands of the kneeling shadow and places it in the center of the crown. As it turns to face you, you hear Valdimar and Vladimir yell at you to stop. The creature raises its hands just as Xukkuth, Lanre and Sonya come within striking distance, and you see that in each is a Prismatic Gem.
There is a burst of power from the creature and the world spins and shutters, colors melt and swirl around you. After a moment, you look around and see that while still in the same place, you are now surrounded by what appears to be large walls that were not there before forming some kind of corridor or hall. Looking at these walls, you realize that they are not entirely physical as you can see obscured shapes through them.
As you contemplate this, there is a loud snap behind you. You spin and see another of the monstrous chimera beasts approaching, its presence revealed by the twigs Oni left on the ground. Oni immediately utters arcane words of power and vanishes, momentarily confusing the monster.
It moves to charge Sharock, but Oni appears behind it, stabbing quickly with his daggers into weak parts of the creature’s chitinous hide. With Oni buying a precious few moments, the others are able to reclaim their senses and join the attack. Though still winded from the last battle, you are able to defeat the monster, though all suffer injury in the fight.
As the creature falls, the walls slowly fade and you find that you are in the same place you were before the strange spell was cast. Looking around you find both figures are now gone, though in their place appears to be an overturned chest abandoned in haste. Looking through its contents, you find a small amount of coin and a few magical trinkets, just the thing needed to recoup the cost of admittance into the ruins.
Turning to Valdimar and Vladimir, they are quietly conferring with each other and seem to come to some kind of agreement. The item put in the crown, was almost certainly a Rune Stone. After a moment of thinking, those who charged into battle who have seen a Rune Stone, also agree. There are no tracks, and no trace of the shadow creatures that fled, though their absence brings little comfort knowing what these unknown forces now possess.July 11, 2013 at 3:09 am #47559ChantellParticipant@ember
Briel will collapse to the ground as she clutches her leg to stop the bleeding from a large wound.
“Can I have some healing please?” she asks, out of breath. “Also, can anyone tell me what just happened? What was that… thing in the crown. And who were those guys?”July 11, 2013 at 3:23 am #47675herogoethKeymaster@herogoeth
After the battle, Lanre Lightsong shakes his head as if dazed, and then opens his mouth as if to complain. Instead of speaking, however, he staggers back to the camp and retrieves a book that he has been using for his notes. He quickly sketches a rough image of the crown and writes down a few key details before snapping the book shut and looking back over to his companions.
“So, any thoughts on what just happened? Do we know who those people were,” he asks, as he glances over the few treasures they left behind, “or even what they were? Are those the Shadows which I’ve heard associated with the Pale Ones?July 11, 2013 at 3:43 am #47560BrandonParticipant@bbraith
Oni closes his eyes and begins to rub his own temples, in deep focus.
OOG: Abyssal lore master specializing in demons. Do I recognize them as demons? Also you keep saying “shadow”. I’m a first level shadow class. Do I recognize his spell casting being similar to mine own?July 11, 2013 at 6:12 am #47676herogoethKeymaster@herogoeth

The adventurers break camp, speculating on the mysterious nature of their encounter with the shadowed figures, and the immensely powerful Rune Stone which they had in their possession. Supplies are beginning to run short, but the group decides to make one last push further into the Ruins of Kvu’Al before they are forced to turn back.
As they move further west, deeper into the Ruins of Kuhvhal, the Adventurers of Northwatch begin to notice that there are certain territories where the surroundings move and shift in subtle ways, even when under direct observation. In addition to this subtle magic, it becomes clear that there is a more devious and vile form of power at work here as well.
The taint of Abyssal Magic still lingers after the demonic occupation of the ruins, and though it is fading, the process is slow and the mark of the accursed energy is becomes more and more tangible as the heroes move westward.
This day offers little success in the way of cartography, but holds great promise as a scouting expedition; the destroyed city teases the eye with hints of lost wonders and great power to be claimed. And yet the Adventurers of Northwatch are forced into hiding on more than one occasion as packs of massive creatures or singular but particularly dangerous enemies are sighted roaming in the near distance. If there was any doubt before, it now becomes certain that this place is extremely dangerous; a wrong turn or a chance encounter with some of the creatures which reside in the central ruins could easily result in the total annihilation of the party.
A few hours before dusk, there are dark rolling clouds flowing in from the east, promising poor weather in the near future. However, this does little to diminish the spirits of the group because it is around this time that adventurers stumble on a find which causes murmurs of excitement from nearly all. This was clearly the site of a battle, and it appears to have been a recent one. The destroyed remnants of some of the lesser arcane guardian golems of Ku’Vahl lay scattered amidst the carnage of demolished buildings, and the smell of sulfur lingers here more strongly than in other places.
Oni is quickly able to confirm that the golems fought against a number of lesser demons, a few months ago. Sharock and Vladimir walk beside Oni, attempting to uncover the more information about the demons that fought here. Xukkuth’s scouting abilities help him understand some of the course of the battle, showing that the force of demons were purposefully drawn away from this location. Sonya, her Warden’s instincts guiding her, points out the lines of battle to indicate that the arcane guardians actions must have been to protect something in this place. Lanre and Valdimarr quickly move to examine the remnants of the golems, but find that they are clearly too damaged to be restored.
However, it is Tari, Orthia, and Briel which uncover the true prize. Using the information provided by the others, the three women manage to discover a circular stone door in the floor which has been locked by a contraption that Orthia is able to quickly bypass.
The ladder which leads down is carved of sturdy stone, and is thus easy to descend; it is not long before the adventurers find themselves standing in awe of the sight before them. They enter into a large open space, lit from the glow of powerful magical barriers which seal off the various corridors which can be found all along the walls of this place, and from the massive creature which rests broken at center of the room. Here lies what must have once been a great protector of Khu’Vall, now sundered and torn. In comparison to even the greatest arcane guardians which the adventurers have seen, this creature would have been a titan. Great glowing runes glimmer dully from carvings in crystal, steel, and stone – and yet the creature’s shape is difficult to determine.
It is damaged to the point of immobility, and no sound nor even a single purposeful flicker of energy emerges from the devastated guardian. Only the soft glow of the runes indicate that any power still remains.

(after the battle of the odd shadow)
looking about Sharock starts working on healing people and listening to the questions he nods his head “I agree that was a very different type of shadow creature”
getting over to Briel he starts to heal the wound on her leg “are you ok? ill get you all fixed up”
(down inside the room)
looking up at the guardian he is awe struck not sure what to think of it, then he starts looking around searching some and checking out the different barriers
“this place is crazy”July 11, 2013 at 6:59 am #47562BrandonParticipant@bbraith
In unabashed awe Oni begins to run his hands across the colossus. Allowing texture of the great guardian to flow under his finger tips. He mysteriously rests his head upon the stone where the creature’s great heart would lie. Closes his eyes as if listening for a heart beat. Both hands and ear pressed to the cool stone.
