Malestrazza fades into view next to the door the moment the man leaves. “A lost alchemical research center. . . I wonder if the person who sent us the Will-O-Wisps is an alchemist. . . ? Regardless, I’m all for investigating this island. If the Pale Ones may be trying to get something from there, we should take it first.” Malestrazza walks accross the room and while he again fades from sight, you hear him mutter something about maybe finally getting somewhere in his research.

Sonya stumbles into the tavern with parchment in one hand and a bottle of wine in the other. She looks over her shoulder at the figure leaving the tavern with a scowl.

She look disheveled, irritable, and her eyes are blood shot

    “Who was that?’

She takes a swing from her bottle and sways to the wall with the notes plastered about it.
She pins up her parchment and takes a table in one of the darker corners and holds her head. She rubs her temples and groans.

“Orthia, could I get some food please?”

    Note on the board.

    Quote:
This vision took the form of a dream

In this vision you see yourself standing before an impossibly tall tower. You look around, but your vision is obscured by a think fog that swirls and dances about you. Almost as if it is trying to obstruct your view. As you look at the tower, you hear a the roar of rushing water, and all of a sudden it, and you, are swept away by a huge wave.

For a moment, you panic. Though in the back of your mind you know this is only a vision, your instincts kick in and you start to thrash wildly, searching for the waters surface. Your lungs begin to burn for air and your vision starts to blur. Your thrashing grows weaker and seconds seem to pass like hours, just as you feel you are losing consciousness, it seems that a blanket is laid over your mind, smothering the panic.

‘Calmly now Lioness, relax. That’s better. Now, picture in your mind the water, now picture the water as air.’

You know you should be more surprised than you are at hearing the voice, but that feeling of blanket keeping your emotions suppressed is still there. You instinctively picture the water, and the thought of seeing it as air seems ridiculous at first, but as it passes through your mind, you find yourself standing before the tower again, breathing air.

‘That’s it. The wave will come again, this time, let it wash over you, don’t fight against it. Don’t acknowledge it as real, and it will not be.’

You hear the roaring sound again, but this time, you know it is part of the vision and it washes over you without any effect. As you look at the parts of the tower that are underwater, you see glowing sigils now cover the tower, keeping the water out. The water will begin to recede, and you recognize time has passed, though you are not sure how much. Though the water level has decreased, a good portion of the tower, and the surrounding area is still underwater.

At this point, the vision seems to take on greater clarity. Colors are sharper, outlines are more defined. For a moment, you ponder why the water stopped receding and your vision immediately shifts. It seems you are looking down from a great height, and the tower is surrounded by glowing lines. Along these lines 3 points, that glow and hum with power. You realize that these points are feeding energy to some kind of barrier, and that is what is keeping the water from receding.

You focus on one of the points and it seems your are there. Something seems wrong though, you aren’t sure what. For a moment, you feel like you have forgotten something important, but the feeling fades and you move one. Looking at the glowing source of power, you see it surrounded by Naga. They are shielding it, and keeping it from dispersing. As you try to get closer, you remember what it is that you had forgotten. What pain feels like. That is what was wrong, you are in pain. It is strange though, it seems distant.

As you come to this realization the pain intensifies. In the distance, you hear a draconic roar and the world shatters around you.

Orthia is sitting at a table playing with her tarot cards. She raises her brow at Sonya as she walks in and stumbles around. “I think I have some stew.” Orthia will go back into the kitchen and eventually come back with a bowl and some bread. After setting it in front of Sonya, Orthia will grab her wine bottle and take a long drink before going back to her table.

There will be a loud crashing sound, as Lanre falls backward over a barstool. He sprawls gracelessly upon the ground for a moment, and then drags himself to his feet. As he stands, Lanre sends a vicious piercing glare towards one of the glowing wisps.

“Lord Vorhil’il Celestion.” Lanre practically grunts the name; frustrated. He then turns to Sonya, making it clear that he is answering her question. “That was the name of the visitor. If you recall, in the Chamber of Seers we were tested in regards to our knowledge of history. We managed to acquire a rather large number of ritual components.” Lanre will rub carefully at his side, where the wisp appears to have shocked him. “One of the questions we could not answer, however, was regarding the name of a singular ancient Elentari warrior, known for his god-like prowess in combat. That was him. The commander of the Rhouman Guard.”

Lanre’s gaze will eventually return to the floating, humming, wisp. “You know, I stopped in Northwatch to briefly consult with Dame Earfalas and Orrin regarding business plans for Elemental Enterprises. However, I have never had the chance to make cartographical notations about The Ethlin Isles. Frankly, I just haven’t been there since Typhon’s Invasion. If you are going to answer this call, I believe I will come with you.”

Rhawon will look up from his books and runes. ” much of what you described is what it was like to survive Typhoon’s attack around Ethlinspire, brings back some bad memories for me. However I will tell you what I know of the area back then if you think it will help.” ((Oog I can’t make the event due to work :( but if plot wants information passed along from me I’m sure we can arrange someway for my PC to help.))

Oni turns visible as he falls out of the rafters, smashing abruptly to the ground. He Looks quickly to Lanre as if to say, I didn’t see anything if you didn’t see anything. Oni rubs his head and butt simultaneously, shoeing the wisp away from him.

Surprisingly warm sunlight and fresh air will enter the tavern, along with a hooded man, who wears a cloak composed of many-colored ribbons and carries a large satchel. “Apprentice Lightsong,” he warns, one golden-sashed arm contorting to aim a spell; “I summon the spirits to grant wellbeing“.

The young man’s eyes will flicker toward the elven knight for a moment, before being attracted to the wall of notes. The fragments, written in many inks and hands, seem to attract him like a lodestone to iron for several moments he does not move from it

His other arm raises, sweeping back the cloak’s hood. Says, Vladamir: “I, too am bound for The Isles–

–we, best be off soon, but I’m sure there’s time for two more drinks and a snack, first?”

He takes a seat, quickly setting out a jumble of whatzits, bandages, runes, booklets, syringes, vials, papers, jars of goo, (eventually the satchel itself), powders, quills, whosits, bombs, and miniature statues on an adjacent table — until he finds a cork-stopped, green bottle, which he holds out to Sonya.

“A divine Kalderash 211 for my Aunt, though it’s Calien terrorir is unmistakable, it’s sublime flavors, will bring you closer of mind to the wines of home, than any Terathian swill, it’s scintillating really, and I swear you can taste that it was made by Family. And for the ever-lovely Orthia, I’ve brought an admittedly lesser beverage, but some kickass vintage Rhouman goggles.”

When the Garadetzski’s eyes twinkle, it’s only a tiny bit forced.

Malestrazza walks into the tavern in his simple black cloak, and takes off its hood as he steps across the threshold.

“I’ll admit, while very happy with what we accomplished, I am a bit disappointed. That plague of fungus was, in my opinion, no ordinary blight. It must have been created by someone, or something, through masterful alchemical talent, and a bit of medical expertise as well. And while we did find a cure for it, it’s not exactly something that’s very simple to gather and make. We won a battle against it, not a war. Who created this fungus. . . ? I fear the possibility of a new enemy who could wreak havoc on our forces in the war with powerful plagues. And even if the Pale Ones are behind this, we now know they have other weapons against us. I won’t lie; I am starting to get a bit overwhelmed by this war. All I can do is hope we can take care of these many problems one at a time.”

The Xelaque sits at a table with a thoughtful look upon his face, but the expression mingles with a light scowl.

“To my knowledge, we didn’t even find the person who sent the wisps. . . But I feel we must now focus on our next action. So! What’s our next move?”

A Thorgg enters the tavern at a quick pace. She wears the bright emblem of Westerland on her sleeve, and her tunic is stained with road dirt and spots of aging blood. One gray-skinned hand remains close to the hilt of a short blade, worn at her hip. Yet instead of wary malice, her expression shows a hint of hesitant awe as she glances around at the various adventurers gathered there, taking in everything she sees. The bone spurs which jut forth from her lower jaw shift as her face slides towards an expression which seems to hint that Northwatch has been measured, and gained her approval. She draws forth a fold of oilskin from a small pack, and takes a moment to pin another letter to the wall. As she stretches forward, her sleeves fall back to reveal the wiry muscle of her frame, and the traces of scars across gray arms. Once her task is complete, she gives a sharp nod to the crowd, and then makes her way back out into the chill air.

    Adventurers of Northwatch,

As promised, I offer you another report as to the current state of the Pale Campaign. First, I offer you my thanks and congratulations. Your efforts have been vital in tipping the scales of war. Thanks to your tactics, along with the brave sacrifices of thousands of soldiers on the field of battle, the allied forces of Terath have managed to turn the tide of the Pale Campaign to our favor. While one can never guarantee the accuracy of military intelligence on a continental scale, this report includes our best estimation of the state of the war today, and includes an overview of the conflict as it proceeded during the month of November.

North: Silence persists in the North. The Armies of Chindius have managed to squash even the minor skirmishing forces that troubled them, and there has not been a single sighting of Pale Legion forces in Narovo or The Queen’s Lands. There have been some rumors that Ambassador Ssky has begun to rally his own troglodyte forces for the purpose of defending the North against any invading Pale Legion force, but as of yet no official announcement has been made.

East: There has been a great turning in the East, which has resulted in a series of important minor victories for the allied forces of Terath. The recent battles in Myzentius were not won by the use of powerful ritual magic, nor by the clever application of Starfall Initiative protocols. Rather, these battles were won through cooperative military efforts from many different factions along with truly brilliant tactics. The Legionnairres of Falconcrest led their mercenaries in the defense of Creon, while a wave of dreadful ghosts from the Kingdom of The Night tormented The Pale Legion just east of Sir Tristan’s lands, on the border of Myzentius. The Argent Tide sailed down from Chinidius and took the Pale Legion in the Flank, while Ghouls and Skeletons marched out of Haven into the mountains of Myzentius, taking the Pale Legion by surprise.

South: The Pale Legion has stepped up their efforts in the south. This tactic has been especially effective due to a strategy which has focused on drawing attention away from the vast forest in Haven, and then using this distraction to reclaim valuable terrain amongst the trees. Additionally, as the City of Vol was one of the first territories to adopt the Starfall Initiative, King Vol has become a loud spokesperson for the effectiveness of the protocol.

West: Many had hoped that the snows might come early this year, slowing down the war on both sides. However, the fighting continued unabated in Ebrus, with small clashes occurring in Westerland as well. While no truly major battles occurred in Ebrus, there have been many small skirmishes which have cost lives on both sides. Reports indicate that there has been an increase in sightings of Skarran in the West, and many are concerned that this suggests a potential increase in the presence of ritual magic on the battlefield in the near future. Though no region of Ebrus has currently adopted the Starfall Iniative, a high number of Margraves in Ebrus have followed Margrave Thrull’s example and opened the gates of their fortresses to welcome all allies, in order to encourage interkingdom cooperation in the struggle against The Pale Legion. This effort has been very effective thus far, although some Ebrans have complained about a few platoons of Argent Tide soldiers which are reported to have overrun one of the fortresses for their own purposes.

    Legend –
Green Zones: Areas which could potentially be attacked by The Pale Legion, but which are firmly within the control of Terath’s United Forces and as such are currently under no direct threat. These regions are very well protected, and are not under any active risk of immediate loss to the enemy, generally speaking.

Yellow Zones: Areas which are thinly protected or mostly controlled by Terath’s Unified Forces, but are not well fortified or defended. These regions risk being targeted and lost to the Pale Legion. Skirmishes may occasionally occur in these territories, but military leaders do not consider these to be active conflict zones.

Orange Zones: Areas of active conflict where Pale Legion forces are currently attempting to claim control. Pale Legion encampments and troops movements persist regularly within these areas. Small battles between the Pale Legion and Terath’s Unified Forces are happening constantly here.

Red Zones: Areas which are firmly within the control of The Pale Legion. Enemy forces within these areas are well fortified, and greatly outnumber any local Terathian forces which might attempt to seize control. Note: There are also three red zones which are currently blanketed in red fog. These regions are the primary bases of operation for the Pale Legion. They are so well fortified that there is currently no avenue of attack traditional military action which would allow them to be retaken.

Valdimarr will look up from the original copies of the prophecies that he’s been pouring over the last several weeks and will pause for a moment, clearly pondering something. After a moment Valdimarr will speak to the room, addressing no one in particular.

“Vol’s Elite recently exploited knowledge of a spy network to organize a raid on a Pale Legion intelligence facility. The Raid on the Pale Legion intelligence facility resulted in the disruption of enemy intelligence in the south. In addition, we were able to claim information about a small spy hub in Myzentius, as well as one in Chindius, in Westerland, and in The Queen’s Lands. We also discovered the specific location of three more locations in Ebrus. Some are actual gathering places, while others are just message drop boxes. Additionally, we discovered the presence of a White Knight from Falconcrest serving as an agent of The Pale Legion in Haven. This White Knight was discovered to be under the thrall of very powerful ritual mind control, although it is not clear if the mind control was the result of a ritual spell, or had been produced by a powerful artifact.

“I haven’t sat down to compare these results with the rest of the campaign’s status, but I suspect that we have a more difficult problem with spies in areas that have not adopted the Starfall Initiative. Take Ebrus for instance; all of the Margraves have opened their doors, but they don’t have consistent protocols for checking for mental compulsion or even vetting someone the old fashioned way. This is the perfect place for spies to set up shop, and it shows. This HAS to get fixed, and fast. The Starfall Initiative is far more important that I think people realize. …just some food for thought.”

With that Valdimarr will return to his tedium, pouring over the prophecies in search of physical tampering.

    “I agree.”

Xukkuth will emerge from a back room of the tavern, an apparent listener to Valdimarr’s commentary.

“It is unsurprising that the Pale Ones would employ dominative ritual magics, after all, that is their very nature. This is an excellent discovery – has this Knight been freed of his condition as of yet? Intense study of that ritual magic could help us head off the storm of such a threat in the future – and uncover how far it has snaked throughout the ranks of our united Cyrillia so far. Furthermore, as you have stated, the damage spies could cause to our war effort could prove truly grave indeed.”

Xukkuth will pause to smile knowingly at Valdimarr.

“After all, we have seen how dominance over espionage in this conflict has led to decisive victory so far, but you are all too familiar with that. We must not forget that exploiting the spies of our enemies can be more profitable than killing them. Regardless, Valdimarr, if you were willing, Haven would be greatly benefited to receive your assistance in examining this enchanted Knight – your magical skills would be quite applicable to such a task, I imagine. Thoughts?”

Malestrazza nods his head silently, considering the implications of the Starfall Initiative once again.

“You’re right, I believe the time has come to adopt the Starfall Initiative in the West. I have been hesitant to accept it because of its downsides, like using up our most valuable resource, time, through so many levels of security and screening, but I believe that we can no longer go without it. It’s just too big of a risk for us to take. I have always disliked excessive laws and procedures, but I’ll admit that they too have their time and place, which is here and now. I’m going back to the monastery, if someone sends me a pigeon, please send it there for me. Especially if it’s from Resport. Blast that man. . .”

With his thoughts already turning to yet another subject, he walks out of the tavern, fading as he crosses the doorway.

Valdimarr will listen to Malestrazza’s response before addressing Xukkuth.

“As far as I know, the Knight that we’ve found has not been freed from his mental domination just in case we need to feed him inaccurate information. As far as looking into how the mental domination is done, I’m more than willing to look into it myself, but I’m certainly not the best suited for it. I’m admittedly an extremely skilled ritual caster, but I’ve never once researched rituals involving the domination of or the freeing of someone’s mind. If Doctor Sawyer were still around I’d suggest he be the one to look into this, but he hasn’t been seen for some time… if anyone else knows a ritual caster skilled in freeing the Shackles of the Mind, I’d recommend they be the ones to look into this.”

With that said, Valdimarr will go back to his tedious work.

Rhawon will nod in agreement with the conversation before speaking up. ” yes, we will need to free this knight quickly as a mind controlled one is quite dangerous. They could force him to use circle of truth on our allies and gain information on what we’re up to. As well as keeping any undead and demon rebels in check.” Rhawon will go back to his books.
