OOG: Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to the Pale Campaign. This thread is a place where you can Role Play with eachother, discussing your plans within the Half Pint Inn, Northwatch’s Famous Tavern.

While this place usually looks just like a normal tavern, on rare occassion you can see hidden glyphs appear, glowing with subtle light. This is a clear sign that the The Half Pint Inn has been magically protected against lesser forms scrying or divination. Any conversations which happen here are far more likely to be safe.

As this thread will be utilized by PCs as well as allied NPCs for many months, the expectation for roleplay here will be a little different than normal. While a conversation of a couple of minutes can often take multiple days in a Role Play Thread, we will generally be assuming (if no posts have been made for a few days) that people have been coming and going and time has been progressing to catch up with current events.

Any PC can feel free to assume that they are currently in the Half Pint Inn at any point, and can jump straight in to a conversation, or you can choose to write about your character entering and leaving the tavern.

In addition, your character may wish to make written posts for others to read. Definitely feel free to do so. I recommend using the Quote function to do so, as shown by my own post below. Thanks, and enjoy!

Lanre Lightsong will finish copying from a stack of papers, and will stand up and approach the wall. He whispers to himself with a sigh. “Here we go.” Lanre stretches languorously, and then pins a number of pages to the wall of The Half Pint Inn.

        Quote:
Divided and United. They ride upon the currents of a Dark Tide, rushing along at the edge of a great conflict, glimpsing the horizon of an eclipse of Shadows. The compass points north upon their map, and so North shall they Watch. North across the Sea. North beyond the glade. North amid the frozen stones, in the place where Names are kept.

Divided and United. They scheme and lie. They steal from one another. They plot their own deaths. And should they falter, what brought life shall bring the end. They are bearers and witnesses of greatness, with eyes carefully turned towards a city now broken. And so North shall they Watch. North across the plains. North beyond high walls. North amid the scars of DragonFire, where the spear waits for battle.

Divided and United. The Explorers seek the Chamber. Within the shadow of the Vallahorien’s destruction, they search for answers. Wanderers, all. Chosen of The Ancestors. In Blood and in Name. Sacrifice. Champion. Shade. Of The Forge. Of Grinning Bones. Of Secrets Forgotten. Of Words Unspoken. They are alone, though they stand in sight of the crowd. They know this, for North they Watch. North across the ruins. North beyond the Mountains. North amid the hold of the Dragons, where even the Great and the True prepare themselves to flee from the battle that is to come.

Record #1841 – The Dark Tide Rises

This appears to be solid confirmation linking the Rhyme of The Rising Tide (Record #1563) to a coming conflict with the Pale Ones. Particular attention should be drawn to the reference regarding ‘plucking the sun from the sky’. This seems to be a reoccurring theme for prophecies involving The Xenactu.

Other potential cross references include Record #890, Record #1147, and Record #1429.

The Pale Enemy taste Cyrillia’s sweet air, and plan their final conquest. Pieces on the board. Soldiers on the field. Weapons in the armory. The dark tide rises, and surging shadows reach in shaded times to pluck the sun from the sky. Heroes grasp in the darkness for a shield, a weapon, a word of power. One by one, the seek to claim the tools which might grant them their only chance to push back the tide, and lift the shroud.

The first of the seven; the Alpha. The Blood & The Bane. The Sword or The Moon. There is no greater weapon against The Pale Enemy. And yet, once drawn, how shall any know peace again?

The Sky beneath the Sky. A watcher of the sleepers. A creature of the deep places. A leader amongst the scaled folk. The Sky may whisper and unite.

The Reborn. Black Fire and Ancient Breath. Broken Chains and Scorched Shadow. Transformed. But Vessel or Voice? Only time will tell.

Stone and Steel. The Progeny of the Forge. The scions of the ruined city. The First, Faded into Legend, yet still within reach. Reclaimed, Renewed, or Repurposed?

Scales of White, Pale and Smooth. Fangs of Alabaster mark the path. A barrier to the key; the key to the barrier.

Pure and Clean, once long ago. Elevated. Chosen. Twisted and Changed, once long ago. Transformed. Hardened. The Dragon Hoards, The Demon Hungers, but the sleeper dreams of home.

The Seventh of The Seven. The Seven. Godfrey Knew. He planned. He prepared. And then he was Forsaken.

These seven tools are unfettered. Their destinies unforged. How much of the rest is unwritten?

Boji Smash will stand up from his table and taking his plate of meat with him will walk up to the pages on the wall. After a moment of starting at the pages he says “Uhh? Lanre, what’s this babbling on about?” as he stabs one of the pages with a greasy finger. “I’ll be here all day trying to read this at the speed I can read”

Valdimarr will look up from a notebook filled with diagrams and thoughts scrolled in the margins.

The first prophecy Lanre posted talks about how we, the adventurers of Northwatch, will be the difference between success or failure in the coming war. The second prophecy talks about seven things needed to succeed. The first of the seven is a bit confusing, but I suspect it deals with the bloodbane spear. The second of the seven talks about ambassador Sky of the Troglodites. The third of seven talks about Xukkuth, the shadow of the Valehorien. The fourth of the seven talks about the first guardian golem of Ku’Vahl. The fifth of the seven talks about a statue that marks the path to a key. The sixth of the seven is also a bit confusing, but I believe it talks about the Skarren. Lastly, the seventh of the seven talks about seven artifacts that were created long ago to help with this war. We need each of these seven things, the bloodbane spear through the seven ancient artifacts, to succeed in the war. Every adventurer of Northwatch needs to know these prophecies.

With that Valdimarr will return to his notebook.

Lanre will smile towards Boji as he confirms. “Valdimarr has it right.”

The cartographer will reach up and pin another page to the wall as he turns to answer Oni’s inquiry. “The Xenactu, or Xnoctu, if you prefer. Regardless of how you spell the name, they are the species that we know as The Pale Ones.”

The newly pinned page is clearly another prophecy, and reads as follows –

                Quote:
If the Crimson Scales have turned to black, granting unhallowed Wings to the Night, then knowledge of these words will bring death to one who is known as a leader in Terath –

The progeny of blood will take hold of The Black Champions, now emboldened by the possession of their winged trophy. Hidden amid the crumbling stones. Confirmed by the stone voice of the whispering philosopher. The Grey Knight, stewarded by The Light, chained by The Black, and bound by ancient oaths. He will be unable to refuse the call.

And so The Sunset Kingdom will offer a sacrifice, given freely, but accepted in anguish. The warrior’s life is forfeit. Victory and Blood at Dusk. Ash at Dawn.

Boji walks over and pats Valdimarr on the shoulder. “Thank you my friend for the translation”
Boji turns and smiles back at Lanre. “Why do these old prophecies have to be so confusing? I can’t imagine how many heroes have died translating their own doom. Hahaha!”

Sonya speaks from her table but doesn’t glance up from a piece of paper she has been writing on for the past half an hour.

“From what I understand the Bloodbane Spear is an ancient weapon that can kill anything. It travels from place to place and never stays with one person. Once someone has used it for a specific purpose it leaves them in one way or another.”

She stops writing and looks over her paper for about five minutes before rolling it up and sending it off with a carrier pigeon.

She rubs her temples and sighs

Silmarwen, who had been sitting at her own table listening and casually drinking from her mug, looked up with a raised brow. “The Spear is not just a weapon that can kill anything. It is a powerful tool that can be used to enhance something. From what I remember, it can enhance rituals or even artifice. I’m not one hundred sure I’m remembering everything that was said.” Silmarwen will clear her throat before continuing. “I have been told that we already carry the Bloodbane spear.” she pausd briefly. “it may not be a spear at all and that it will reveal itself when the time is right.”

At the mention of the legendary Bloodbane Spear, Xukkuth will step into the tavern, wearing a stylish black vest, adorned with countless little (and admittedly strange)charms.

Coughing slightly to draw the attention of the room, he will say in a solemn voice:

“The Bloodbane Spear is a weapon of nothing but sorrow and hate. It consumes even the strongest of wielders – it destroys them with what it is. It is a tool that changes timelines, defies destiny, and is capable of ripping from the world even the most…beautiful and majestic things. It cows the powerful and the weak, the good and the evil. It is Dragonfire, but most of all, it is beyond even Northwatch. Think no more of that weapon, I beg you, for your sakes. Pray you never cross paths with it.”

The odd look of supreme sadness and desperate seriousness will leave Xukkuth’s face, shifting back to a a sly half-moon smile.

“Good to see you, friends. How was the war council?”

“I was not able to attend the war council. I haven’t been filled in yet as to what happened. “

Looking from Sonya to Silmarwen and Valdimarr, Xukkuth will ask, “Any of you willing to spill a word or two on the subject?”

With that, Xukkuth will take a seat at Silmarwen’s table.

Lanre will smile towards Xukkuth. “I missed the meeting as well. I’m afraid that I was engaged in a cartographical pursuit that didn’t go as well as I had hoped. The Kingdom of The Night has been sending regular wraiths and ghouls with me as guardians while I make maps of the Ruins of Ku’Vahl.” The MapMaker’s Apprentice will sigh and shrug. “Normally they send at least one Dread Wraith or Skeletal Knight to keep me from harm, but times being as they are, it seems that the Kingdom of The Night is in greater need of their more formidable forces.’

“Alas, my defenders were attacked and I was forced to flee. I was holed up inside an old armory for nearly a full day before one of the Ku’Vahl Golems found me and helped get me out of there.”

Lanre will take a moment to shuffle through his stack of papers. “Valdimarr filled me in on the details. Apparently, Dame Silmarwen is in charge of something called the StarFall Initiative. What I’ve pieced together is that The Terathian Vigil recently reached out to the allies of Northwatch. They called in everyone from everywhere; we are talking the Kingdom of The Night to The Argent Tide. The Terathian Vigil is trying to organize and divide Northwatch into strike teams so that we can engage in simultaneous missions which either fortify us against the Pale Ones, or directly attack The Pale Legion.”

The would-be bard will turn towards the wall again, pinning up another prophecy –

                                    Quote:
The forge fires must run hot, for scores of lives shall weigh in the balance.
A broken tool in a place all but forgotten.

The Smith, hardened through battles on the road. The Smith, mastering the fire and the iron. The Smith, a name written in steel with each blow of the hammer.

This shall be but the first step on a long path.
