“Simple, Sibella. You see…” The creature’s head snaps towards Alina as she picks up the die and rolls.

      Click, clack, patter patter…

      3

“You rolled low, but just barely. You’ll find yourself a tad less healthy than you were for about a month.”

Everyone watching sees Alina’s frame slouch just a little.

Styx rushes over to Alina, grabbing her shoulders and pulling her out of the seat. “What were you thinking?!?” She drags Alina over to the other side of the tavern and sits her down in a seat. “Don’t roll that dice again.”
Styx turns on her heel and walks back to the table where the creature sat. She looks at the creature with much distaste. “Luna, please don’t risk it.”

The creature shrugs. “Not to worry, the effect is minor, and won’t be permanent. And this particular game is only playable once by any specific person. She could roll the die again, but nothing would happen.” The creature shifts its attention to Styx, “So what’s your reason for not playing?”

While Styx dragged Alina she tried to talk to Styx, but couldn’t find the words. Looking more tired than usual she seems grateful to be sitting.

Styx hesitates for a moment, clearly contemplating something. “I don’t take chances without knowing the risks. I will roll when I feel like I understand the risk.” She states calmly. She eyes the die and taps her fingers against the hilt of her dagger.

Sibella’s attention snaps to Alina. She goes over to where she is sitting, conducting a medical examination. Quietly she mutters, “This is why we don’t play games with the mysterious creature in the night. I rolled a 2 and took a life. You’re lucky.”
Sibella glances back to the creature. “You were saying? In regards to my name?”
She glared at the creature, but keeps her attention to Alina’s health.

The creature nods once sharply. “A common perspective. It leaves out a bit of excitement, but some people prefer it that way.” It licks its green lips, obviously anxious for the next player.

“I know your name because you lost a piece of yourself to the game, Sibella. It’s that simple.” The creature smiles.

Luna looked between Styx, Alina, and the creature. She clearly wanted to roll. She walks over to Styx and stares at the die.

                        Something turns to Stuff
                        Styx.
“Alina’s base health has been lowered to 5. That’s all I can detect right now. I can keep an eye on her the next few weeks.”
Sibella’s gaze will switch from Styx to Luna.
“Luna,” she whispers softly, ” I will not physically stop you. But I have played this game and paid the price. Please…”
Those looking at Sibella will see a flash of genuine concern and fear in her face.
                        “Don’t touch the dice.”
At this Sibella will stand up and walk to the kitchen.

Luna nods. “I just want to try it. I don’t have much to lose.” She walks up to the table and sits. She picks up the dice and looks at it for a moment before rolling. She watches the dice hit the table with anticipation.

The die hits the table with a spin.

                            Tak, tak, taktata.

“Oh my… That’s the lowest you could have rolled. Hmm, what’s that phrase about the curious cat, again?”

Everyone watches as Luna’s nose turns to that of a cat, and long whiskers sprout around it. She lets loose a long “mmeeeeooowwwww” during this transformation.

“You know, I don’t think it looks that bad. And you’ll only ‘meow’ when you’re curious about something.” The creature hacks out a laugh in amusement.

“See? I brought a fun game this time! If the worst punishment the die can deal is making a parthan look and act a bit more like a house cat, what’s the harm in everyone giving it a try?”

Styx sighs, “Why do I always have to be the one with common sense in my group?” She walks over to the Luna-cat sitting in the chair. She picks the cat up and sets her by Alina. She turns and faces the creature, “how long will this last?” She asks, a sharpness etching into her voice.

(Out of Game: To clarify, Luna’s normal parthan appearance has been slightly shifted to be more like that of a common house cat. Her size remains unchanged.)

“Until the end of January. No longer, no shorter.”

“Well that’s great.” She looks over at Luna then back at the creature. “So far the dice hasn’t been horrible.” She sits down next to Alina and Luna. She crosses her legs and continue to watches the table with the die and the creature. She was clearly thinking, her head swayed side to side, as if weighing her options.
