Slayer of Heroes
Participant@slayer-of-heroesThis role play takes place in Northwatch on the night of December 21st-22nd, 218 PB. This role play will be inaccessible after January 1st 2019. You are welcome to have your character join in at any time, regardless of your downtime activities. Keep the following in mind when you make a post:
1 – When posting, describe what actions/reactions your character takes. Keep in mind that you are describing this from a 3rd person perspective, so don’t put down what your character is thinking, just how they show it. Remember, everything you write is known!
2 – You cannot post anything for a PC you do not play without their express permission and approval.
3 – Characters who do not participate are still aware of what happens. You may use whatever excuse is convenient for why that is (i.e. – They were watching from the shadows).
4 – Skill Points, consumables, and charges on magic items cannot be used.
5 – PvP is not allowed.
6 – The trading of any and all items is not allowed.

Participant@slayer-of-heroesAt exactly midnight under the full moon, a humanoid figure makes its way into town. Once it reaches the light of Northwatch’s tavern, everyone watching can plainly see that it is no human. The skin around the creature’s mouth is a lime-green color (though the rest is a normal hue for a human), its brown hair is wildly unkempt, and the most notable of its colorful clothes of silk (that don’t match at all) is a strip of silver cloth that’s being worn as a blindfold. It carries no pack or weapons and isn’t channeling, but in one of its hands is a small, red velvet pouch that rattles softly with each step taken.
Once it reaches the door of the tavern, it speaks with a soft, raspy voice, saying, “Hello again, adventures.” A wide smile splits its green lips as it sits down at the nearest table. “Does anyone feel like playing a game on this beautiful night?” With that, it opens the pouch and pulls out a single six-sided die, setting it on the table.

Participant@skiveseyesStyx watches as the strange figure pulls out the die. Her gaze follows the die, eyes narrowing with suspicion, her hands tightening around the grips of her daggers. Though she sat still.
“Who are you?” She asks the man with a cautionary undertone.“If you are caught, you deserve to be punished” They/ThemDecember 22, 2018 at 12:20 am #78049Alina
Participant@alinaAlina nervously slides closer to Styx seeking protection. As the mysterious stranger sits down, she looks scared and concerned.

Participant@slayer-of-heroesThe grin widens as the question is asked. “Let’s not talk about me, let’s instead talk about the game! Each player can only roll once. It’s simple, free to play, and could win you a prize! You might walk away with less than you started with, though… In the past, I’ve come with games that have left their players permanently changed. Some for the better, some not so much. This time, there won’t be any permanent effects. In fact, nothing will last more than a month. Any takers?”

Participant@krowKrow eyes the familiar figure and grimices.
As the two girls approach him Krow moves towards them shaking his head.“The is a creature who has only called himself ‘the gambler’. We’re pretty sure he has ties to abyssal things, though we have no proof.
Rolling his dice can give you things, but can also take them away, including your life.
I would advise you not to do so as again we think that by doing so binds you to a contract of sorts as well.
Although if you wish to, I will not stop you, and I will remain here to make sure nothing truely horrible happens.”Krow shakes his head again.
“Why come back after what happened last time?”
Krow will remain where ever the gambler goes without sleep as long as he is in town giving the same warning to any who approach him.
"You know nothing of passion. When your rage can sunder mountains, you may speak to me of passion."
-- Krowthus Quince of the Clan of the Bear, summer 215December 22, 2018 at 8:44 am #78053Slayer of Heroes
Participant@slayer-of-heroesThe smile persists, unfazed by Krow’s comments. “It’s not the first time that one of you has called me ‘the gambler’, though I never have called myself that, but you’re free to refer to me as you wish. I assure you that I have nothing to do with the Abyss or its magics, and I’m always willing to submit to whatever magical identification you’d like. In the past, I’ve brought games that have taken lives, that is true, but this time I brought a more light-hearted one because of the negative feedback. The stakes are much, much lower. And there are no contracts or anything of the sort involved.”
The creature turns its head towards Krow, and though it wears a blindfold, everyone can tell that it’s looking straight at him. “I didn’t return to respect the wishes of your previous sheriff, but now that the position of sheriff has shifted to you, I figured that you might actually give me a chance.” The creature then looks at the die in front of it. “So! Anyone feel like playing?”

Participant@skiveseyesStyx grimaces and steps back from Krow and ‘the gambler’, pushing Alina with her.
“Keep your distance, Alina.” Styx says, not removing her gaze from the strange creature.
Styx positions herself between Alina and ‘the gambler’ protectively.“So we are just letting this- this thing, stay in town?”

Participant@slayer-of-heroesThe creature’s head tilts slightly to one side and speaks in a voice that sounds genuinely concerned, gesturing towards the single white die in front of him, “I mean none of you any harm, I just came to play this game. I bear no weapons and channel no magic against any of you, and I’d be very grateful if you extended me the same courtesy.” It then stands and walks to a nearby window, looking out and up at the night sky. “And don’t worry, I’ll be gone by the time the sun comes up.” It then returns to its seat, its smile returning.

Participant@chelseaThere is a loud thump in the corner. Anyone who turns to look at the source will see Sibella sitting in a dimly lit corner; her book now on the table.
“Oh good, it’s you.” Clear sarcasm in her voice. “You were here just after last winter solstice. Have you come to return my life?”
Sibella stands, walking to the creature. “Why is it you only appear after winter solstice? Need to make sure it’s dark and foreboding enough for you?”Sibella crosses her arms, glancing to all the others in the room.

Participant@skiveseyesLuna walks up behind Styx and Alina and taps Styx’s shoulder. “Styx, what’s going on?” She asks quietly. She pulls up the sleeves of her kimono so that her hands are exposed. She clearly didn’t look comfortable with the strange creature, she eyed the dice, a curious light flickering in her eyes.

Participant@slayer-of-heroesThe creature’s grin is replaced with a look that someone might give their child when they’ve hurt themselves while playing. “Oh Sibella Listrotov… It’s so sad when the game doesn’t favor the player. To roll a three with two six-sided dice is so unlikely, it’s a shame that it had to be someone from Northwatch. I’m afraid that this game doesn’t deal in lives ruturned or taken, though I doubt that you’d play even if it did.”
The creature’s blinded gaze follows Sibella as she approaches it, and it grins. “How very observant of you! There is power in each winter solstice, and that power allows for me to visit you all.” It points out the window to the full moon. “And isn’t it lovely?”
Suddenly, the creature’s head turns to Luna. “It’s a pleasure to meet you, would you like to play?”
December 22, 2018 at 10:38 am #78060Alina
Participant@alinaAlina pushes past Crow and Styx. Cautiously she walks towards the gambler and sits at his table. Alina picks up the die and rolls.

Participant@chelseaSibella’s expression did not change as the creature spoke. She simply watched with a bored interest in her face, but a glimmer of interest behind her eyes.
“You are correct, I have learned from my past, as all adventurers do when they make unwise decisions. But, your response has inspired me to pose another question to you….” At this Sibella rests her palms on the table, leaning in towards the creatures face, “How is it you know my name when I never have it to you in the first place?”PC: Rory Brooker

Participant@skiveseyesLuna yelps when the creature speaks her name. Her eyes widening with fear. She watches as Alina walks over to the creature. “Alina. . ?”

Participant@skiveseyesStyx keeps her eyes on the creature as sibella approaches him. She feels Alina walk by and her gaze snaps to look at Alina. “Alina don’t!” Too late. Styx grimaces as the dice rolls. “Damn.”
