We wanted to keep the Mythic community up to date with what is happening with the Events and the current COVID-19 that is spreading. We are monitoring the outbreak and listing to the recommendations from experts about precautions to do.

At this time, we are not cancelling further events, but that can very well change within the next few days. Please keep an eye on this post on if we hold off on Mythic events to ensure the well-being of the players.

So as of today(monday the 16th), we are still good to go for events? None have been cancelled yet?

As of today, March 16th, the staff team is discussing the possibility of canceling the event on the 18th.

I have some concerns about the virus but I don’t think canceling all the events is the answer. I feel like the public in general are overly paranoid and if we just start canceling events then we are letting the unnecessary hysteria win. We are a small, responsible group of individuals and I have faith that everyone will take the necessary precautions if they believe they are sick.
    Just my opinion.

I agree that we want to make sure we are not giving into hysteria, but rather approaching this with an appropriate degree of concern and caution.

Part of what makes this virus easily spread is its ability to survive in open air (up to 24 hours) or on an unsterilized surface (including stainless steel) for up to 72 hours. The amount of time before symptoms begin to manifest differs from person to person, but is typically 2- 14 days after exposure.

Because of these factors, the CDC has advised keeping our distance from others in order to make sure those who have it but are unaware of it don’t spread it.

It really sucks having to cancel events. I hate to do it, not only because I want to play but I also don’t want to feel that the hobby I love is subject to the panic and hysteria some places are succumbing to. I have to ask myself though, is it worth the risk to not do it?

Lets say we cancel every event for the next 8 weeks. That equates to 8 events and 2 open houses. Again, while it sucks, is that really a big deal? My take is to look at the risk v. the reward. Do I want to risk infecting someone so I can go to a Mythic event?

To me, the answer is a resounding no. So while it sucks, and while I hate to ‘give in’ to the hype I think is dumb, at the end of the day, it just isn’t worth the risk. To me, my family, or to others who may be more vulnerable. I don’t want that on my conscience.

The plot team is talking about setting up a discord server for some RP, and we can always have board RP. After all, weekend season is coming up. I would much rather miss some events and have this blow over so we don’t have to cancel weekends.

I shared this elsewhere, but I think it could be helpful to share it here as well. I saw this really wonderful post last night, which was written for students at a school to help them understand the reasons that it is worth taking a more cautious approach.

It is probably worth mentioning that I personally went out to a party last Saturday night, determined not to buy into the panic around the virus, but the more I learned about what’s going on, the more I realized the importance of trying to slow the spread of this virus.

Additionally, here’s a great video which helped me get a much better grasp on the complications of the current medical situation in the U.S.

I hope you are all staying safe & healthy!
