I worry about the inflatable things getting punctured unless they are filled with some kind of foam or something. However, I have actually seen and played with hulk hands before. They are completely made out of a squishy foam with a harder casing around the hands. Though not terribly sturdy, something like this might actually be worth looking into to modify for unarmed combat...
Spray paint is somewhat acidic. Use a latex paint.

Thing hands are closer to red, but have the wrong number of fingers for most races. (The almost scaled skin would work REALLY well for a Trog and maybe a Thorgg though) Also, their sound boxes would probably need to be removed before actually LARPing with them. >.<'
